Retiro Park (Parque del Buen Retiro) is a historic 125-hectare green oasis in central Madrid, located near the Prado Museum. Originally established as a private royal garden for King Philip IV in the 1630s, it served as a royal retreat for over two centuries before opening to the public in 1868. In 2021, it was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site as part of the "Paseo del Prado and Buen Retiro" landscape. The park features more than 15,000 trees and serves as Madrid’s favorite weekend destination for relaxation and cultural activities.

Visitors can explore various gardens, including the Rosaleda rose garden, the Jardín de Vivaces, and the Jardines de Cecilio Rodríguez. Key landmarks include the Estanque Grande, an artificial lake where visitors can rent rowboats for €6–€8, and the Palacio de Cristal, a glass-and-iron pavilion built in 1887 that hosts free contemporary art exhibitions. The Monument to Alfonso XII stands prominently near the lake, while the park also contains a historic olive tree estimated to be 627 years old and a nearly 400-year-old Mexican conifer.

Entry to the park is free, with no gates, tickets, or time slots required. The park is open year-round from early morning to late evening, though it may close during severe weather conditions. It hosts significant annual events, such as the Book Fair from late June to mid-July. The atmosphere is ideal for photography, walking, and escaping the summer heat. Visitors are advised to check for any temporary closures due to weather. The park offers a peaceful contrast to the bustling city, providing a space for both leisure and cultural engagement.
