The Palacio de la Aljafería in Zaragoza is a historic palace complex that serves as the seat of the Cortes de Aragón. Recognized as part of the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Mudéjar Architecture of Aragon, the site features a blend of Islamic, Christian, and Gothic architectural styles. Originally built as a leisure residence for the Taifa King al-Muqtadir in the 11th century, it later underwent significant reforms by Christian Kings, including Fernando el Católico, who transformed it into a royal Christian alcazar.
Visitors can explore the interior, which includes significant Islamic art, medieval Aragonese royal quarters, and the palace built by the Catholic Monarchs. The grounds feature a great rectangular courtyard with reservoirs and side porticos, offering a glimpse into the palace’s original design. From November 1 to March 31, it is open Monday to Saturday from 10:00 to 18:00, and Sundays from 10:00 to 14:00. The ticket office opens 15 minutes before opening and closes 45 minutes before closing.
The site offers guided tours, brochures, and a virtual tour via QR codes in seven languages. It is partially accessible to individuals with reduced mobility, though specific assistance may be required.
