Torre Tavira

Torre Tavira is an 18th-century Baroque watchtower located in the heart of Cádiz’s old town, near Plaza de las Flores. Standing 45 meters above sea level, it is the highest point in the city and was originally designated as the official port watchtower in 1778. Today, the tower is part of the Conservatory of Music and serves as a major tourist attraction, offering a unique blend of history and technology.

The main experience at Torre Tavira is the Camera Obscura, a device that projects real-time, panoramic views of the city onto a screen. This 45-minute guided tour also includes visits to exhibition halls displaying the history of Cádiz in the 18th century, featuring original telescopes, logbooks, and historical photographs. A lookout point at the top provides the best views of the historic city center.

Visitors should note that advance booking is essential due to limited capacity. Tours are available in Spanish, English, and German at specific times throughout the day. The tower is open daily from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. between October and April, and until 8:00 p.m. from May to September, with last admission one hour before closing. It is closed on December 25, January 1, and January 6. General admission costs €8.00, with a reduced rate of €6.00 for seniors, students, and large families.
