Cala Macarella

Cala Macarella is a renowned beach on the southwest coast of Menorca, celebrated for its striking natural beauty. Located approximately 13.5 kilometers southeast of Ciutadella, this horseshoe-shaped cove features bleached-blonde sand and turquoise waters framed by cliffs covered in pine and holm oak trees. The beach is widely considered one of the most photogenic spots in the Balearic Islands, offering vivid color gradients in the water that are particularly visible on calm days.

Visitors typically access the beach via a dedicated car park, which requires a walk of about 25 minutes. Alternatively, a seasonal shuttle service may be available from the Ciutadella side. Due to its popularity, the beach becomes crowded during the summer months. Travelers are advised to arrive early in the morning or later in the afternoon to secure a spot and enjoy a more peaceful experience. The ideal time to visit for swimming is from late spring to early autumn, when the sheltered geometry of the cove ensures excellent water clarity.

The beach is free to enter and has no official opening hours, as it is a natural public space. Facilities are limited, maintaining a nature-first atmosphere, so visitors should bring their own supplies, including water and sun protection. A short five-minute walk from Cala Macarella leads to Cala Macarelleta, a smaller and less visited neighboring beach that offers a quieter alternative. The area is best suited for swimming, relaxing, and photography, providing a serene escape within the natural landscape of Menorca.
