Fundación César Manrique

The Fundación César Manrique is located in Taro de Tahiche, on the island of Lanzarote. This unique site was the home and studio of the artist César Manrique, who lived there from 1968 until his death in 1992. The house is constructed directly on top of and inside five giant volcanic bubbles within a frozen lava river, created by eruptions between 1730 and 1736. Manrique’s design philosophy emphasized integrating architecture with nature, and the building reflects this by working with the volcanic terrain rather than flattening it.
