Jardín de Cactus

The Jardín de Cactus in Guatiza, Lanzarote, is a unique botanical garden created by the renowned artist César Manrique. Built within an abandoned volcanic sand quarry, the garden seamlessly integrates architecture with the natural landscape, reflecting Manrique’s philosophy of harmonizing human intervention with nature. The site was historically used for cochineal production, and the garden now houses one of the world’s most significant cactus collections, featuring over 500 species and 4,500 specimens from five continents.

Curated by botanical expert Estanislao González Ferrer, the garden showcases diverse cacti with unique characteristics, set against the backdrop of the volcanic terrain. The central feature is a circular amphitheater with a fountain, surrounded by terraces filled with cacti and other succulents. The design allows visitors to appreciate the variety of shapes, colors, and textures of the plants.

The garden is open daily from 10:00 to 17:00, with last admission at 16:30. A cafeteria and tapas shop are available on-site, offering refreshments with views of the garden. The location is accessible by car or bus, making it an easy stop for travelers exploring Lanzarote.
